This past Novemeber, over one weekend, I attended the Calarts Open House and National Portfolio Day in the glorious NYC!!! And of course, naturally being a procrastonator, waited to the absolute last second to put together my portfolio! NOTE: DONT FOLLOW MY EXAMPLE BY PROCRASTINATING!
On Saturday at the Calarts Open House, Calart's alumni came and talked about their experience and took general questions from the audience. Even though we were obviously not on campus I could feel the Calarts magical energy flowing through my veins! For those of you who don't personally know me, I am a Calarts FREAK! I live and breath to aspire to go to that college!!!! It's Calarts or Bust!!!!(okay, im exaggerating). I was the only one to bring their portfolio to the Open House, which gave me so much more time with the figure drawing instructor from the college to review my stuff!
National Portfolio Day can only be defined as....crazy. It was held at the Javitz Center on Sunday and there HAD to be over 1,000 artisits there. Lines were over two hours long, depending on the college. I visted Ringling, SVA, and Parsons. I got great feed back and would TOTALLY recommend going to NPD for aspiring artists to get a base line and realize what they need to work on!
My advice: GET THERE EARLY!!!! You will be the first in line and be able to cover more ground because when they say the event is over at 4:00...Its over at 4:00, meaning they shut the lights off and force you to get out to line!
Here is my Portfolio that I lugged through NYC:
